Oct 31, 2015 - How to Freeze Rows in Excel. Select the row right below the row or rows you want to freeze. If you want to freeze columns, select the cell immediately to the right of the column you want to freeze. Go to the View tab. Select the Freeze Panes command and choose 'Freeze Panes.'

Freeze Panes has been around for awhile, and you’ve most likely seen or worked with a spreadsheet with a frozen top row or columns, but it can be easy to forget how to do it even if you’ve learned how before.
Check out the video above, or follow these steps:
- Go to the View tab.
- To freeze or lock your top row, click the Freeze Panes icon in the ribbon and select Freeze Top Row.
- To freeze or lock your first column, click the Freeze Panes icon and select Freeze First Column.
- To freeze multiple rows at the top of the spreadsheet, or columns on the left of the spreadsheet, select a column just below or just to the right of where you’d like to freeze. Click the Freeze Panes icon and select Freeze Panes.
